Chile eSIM: WOM 5G Data for Santiago, Atacama, Patagonia & Beyond

The DealeSIM Chile eSIM connects to WOM 5G, so you can get online as soon as you land in Santiago and travel on to the Atacama Desert or Patagonia. Hotspot is included, there’s no speed reduction, and you can activate within 180 days of purchase. Your data exits through the United Kingdom (UK).

Travel Tips

  • Fill in the SAG customs declaration. All travellers must complete Chile’s agricultural (SAG) declaration, which you can file online before you fly. Animal and plant products such as cheese, cold cuts, honey and fresh or dried fruit must be declared, and undeclared items can mean fines. It’s easiest not to bring food.
  • Check entry rules for your passport. Many nationalities don’t need a tourist visa, but rules differ by country. Passports usually need at least six months’ validity, and you may be asked for proof of onward travel or funds. At the airport you’ll receive a tourist card valid for 90 days, so keep it with your passport until you leave. Confirm the latest requirements on official Chilean government sources before you fly.
  • Match the season to the region. December to February is summer and the best time for Patagonia and the south. The northern deserts, including the Atacama, are dry all year.
  • Download offline maps for remote areas. Signal can be limited or patchy on the high Atacama plateaus and in remote parts of Patagonia, including around Torres del Paine. Save maps, trail details and your bookings offline, and book campsites or refugios well in advance.
  • Eat well in Santiago. Barrio Italia, Lastarria and Bellavista are the main food neighbourhoods. From the airport, Route 555 links to the Metro at Pajaritos and Barrancas stations, or use the official transport stands after the SAG checkpoint.
  • Carry some cash and an adaptor. The currency is the Chilean peso (CLP). Cards are widely accepted, but keep some cash. Chile uses type C and L plugs at 220 V.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which network does the Chile eSIM use, and can I share my data?

A: It connects to WOM 5G. Hotspot is allowed, so you can share data with a travel companion or a laptop. The plan has no speed reduction.

Q: Why does my IP location show the United Kingdom?

A: Your data exits in the United Kingdom (UK), so websites and apps may show your location as the UK. This is normal and doesn’t affect your signal or speed in Chile. Maps and ride apps still use your phone’s GPS for your real position.

Q: Will it work in the Atacama, Patagonia and other remote areas?

A: Expect the strongest signal in Santiago and the other major cities. High-altitude areas of the Atacama, remote parts of Patagonia and far-flung places like Easter Island can have limited or patchy signal, so download offline maps before you go.

Q: Do WhatsApp and phone calls work?

A: WhatsApp and other data-based messaging and calling apps work over mobile data. This is a data-only plan, so there’s no Chilean phone number for regular calls or SMS. Keep your home SIM active for SMS verification codes.

Q: Can I use it in Argentina, Peru or Bolivia?

A: No, this plan covers Chile only. If you’re also crossing into Argentina, Peru or Bolivia, the Latin America 25 countries eSIM covers those countries, but it doesn’t include Chile, so you’d need both plans.
