Croatia eSIM Guide: Neum Border, Plitvice Tickets & Travel Tips

This Croatia eSIM connects to Tele2's 5G and A1's 4G networks, covering the Adriatic coast, Zagreb, and the national parks. Two things catch road-trippers out: the Split–Dubrovnik road can cut through Bosnia's Neum corridor (the Pelješac Bridge now bypasses it), and Plitvice Lakes runs on timed-entry tickets that sell out in summer. Both are easier with data on hand. No throttling, hotspot included.

Travel Tips

  • Check which way your GPS is sending you to Dubrovnik. The classic coastal road passes through a short strip of Bosnia (the Neum corridor), with two border crossings and a passport check. Since July 2022, the Pelješac Bridge lets you drive Split to Dubrovnik entirely within Croatia, and it's currently free for passenger cars. Live navigation helps you spot and choose the route.
  • Book Plitvice Lakes tickets online before you go. The park runs on timed entry, and in summer the slots sell out, with priority given to online bookings. Book several days ahead in peak season, or better, visit in spring or autumn when it's cooler and far less crowded.
  • Beat the summer traffic on the coast. In July and August, the approaches to Dubrovnik and Split can back up badly at midday. Arriving before 9am or after 7pm saves a lot of waiting, and parking in old towns is limited.
  • Book island ferries and catamarans ahead in peak weeks. Services to islands like Hvar and Korčula sell out in summer, and booking and checking schedules is far easier on mobile data than at the port.
  • Keep some euros on you. Croatia has used the euro since 2023, and cards work in towns, but small konobas, island kiosks, and market stalls can be cash-only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need my passport when driving from Split to Dubrovnik?

A: Only if your route goes through the Neum corridor, a short stretch of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the coastal road, where there's a border check. The Pelješac Bridge bypasses it, so you can stay within Croatia the whole way. If you're taking a bus, check whether it runs "via most Pelješac" (the bridge) or "via Neum."

Q: Do I need to book Plitvice Lakes tickets in advance?

A: Yes, especially in summer. Entry is by timed slot, tickets sell out in peak season, and online bookings get priority over tickets at the gate. Spring and autumn are cooler and much quieter.

Q: Which networks does this eSIM use?

A: This eSIM connects to Tele2 (5G) and A1 (4G), covering Croatia's main cities, the Adriatic coast, and the popular tourist areas.

Q: Will this eSIM work if I take a day trip to Bosnia or Montenegro?

A: No. This plan covers Croatia only, so day trips to Mostar in Bosnia or the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro fall outside it, and so does the Neum stretch of coast road. Our Europe eSIM (40 Areas) doesn't include those countries either.

Q: I'm also visiting Slovenia or Italy. Which plan should I get?

A: Croatia pairs naturally with Slovenia, and many road trips add Istria and Trieste on the way. Our Slovenia eSIM covers that leg, or the Europe eSIM (40 Areas) covers Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, and Hungary on a single plan.
