Maldives eSIM: Dhiraagu 4G Data for Malé, Resort Islands & Local Atolls
The DealeSIM Maldives eSIM connects to Dhiraagu 4G, so you can get online as soon as you land at Velana International Airport and travel on to Malé, local islands or resorts. Hotspot is included, there’s no speed reduction, and you can activate within 180 days of purchase. Your data exits through Poland (PL).
Travel Tips
- Complete the Traveller Declaration before you fly. Every traveller, including children, must submit the free IMUGA form on the official portal (imuga.immigration.gov.mv) within 96 hours before arrival. Save the QR code offline, as airline staff and immigration may ask for it. Tourists generally get a 30-day visa on arrival, but you’ll need a confirmed booking, an onward ticket and proof of funds. Entry rules can change, so check the official Maldives immigration website before you travel.
- Know the difference between resorts and local islands. Alcohol is served at resorts but not on local islands, and bringing alcohol or pork into the Maldives is illegal. Local islands are more conservative, so dress modestly in villages and use the beaches set aside for swimwear.
- Plan your transfers around daylight. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late arrival may mean a night in Malé or Hulhumalé. Speedboats and ferries link local islands, so check times with your accommodation before you go.
- Don’t rely on resort Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi at resorts and guesthouses can be slow or limited to common areas. An eSIM is useful on the beach, on boats and when you move between islands.
- Pick your season. November to April is dry, sunny and calm. May to October is wetter and greener, with better prices and fewer visitors.
- Save what you need offline. Signal can thin out on remote atolls and in open water. Download offline maps and save your booking confirmations and transfer details before you leave Malé.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which network does the Maldives eSIM use, and can I share my data?
A: It connects to Dhiraagu 4G. There’s no 5G on this plan. Hotspot is allowed, so you can share data with a travel companion or a laptop. The plan has no speed reduction.
Q: Why does my IP location show Poland?
A: Your data exits in Poland (PL), so websites and apps may show your location as Poland. This is normal and doesn’t affect your signal or speed in the Maldives. Maps and ride apps still use your phone’s GPS for your real position.
Q: Will it work on resort islands and remote atolls?
A: Expect 4G in Malé and Hulhumalé and on inhabited local islands. Coverage at individual resorts and on the most remote atolls varies, and signal can thin out in open water. Ask your resort about mobile coverage before you book, and download offline maps.
Q: Do WhatsApp and phone calls work?
A: WhatsApp and other data-based messaging apps work over mobile data. This is a data-only plan, so there’s no Maldives phone number for regular calls or SMS. Keep your home SIM active for SMS verification codes.
Q: Is resort Wi-Fi enough, or do I need mobile data?
A: Resort and guesthouse Wi-Fi can be slow or limited to common areas, so mobile data is a useful backup. It also covers you on the beach, on boats and between islands.
